About these profiles

Whose page a profile is

Every profile in this section was written by the woman it belongs to. She fills in the form, chooses the photographs, decides what to say about rates and hours, and comes back to change it when any of that changes. Our part is to check what can be checked and to lay it out.

That is why the profiles are so uneven. One runs to a paragraph and the next to a page, and evening them out would mean writing in somebody else's voice about her own work, which we will not do. A short profile means she has not written much yet. It does not mean anything else.

The verified badge is the one thing on a profile that comes from us rather than from her. It means she sent a photograph taken for this site: herself, holding a dated sign with her handle written on it. It is deliberately awkward to fake, which is the entire point — a badge that everybody has is not worth having. Plenty of good listings do not carry it, because sending a photograph is a favour and not a requirement.

Follow the links she gives you

Most profiles carry links off the site — her own website, Bluesky, X, sometimes a booking form. Use them. A directory entry is a snapshot and her own feed is the live version: if she is touring, away for a fortnight, or has changed her rates this week, that is where it will appear first. Tour dates shown on a profile are the ones she gave when she filled in the form.

Independent means she is the entire business

There is no front desk. She does her own screening, sets her own rates, keeps her own diary and answers her own phone, and that has consequences at both ends. Expect to be asked for something before a booking is confirmed. Why that happens, and what is reasonable to ask for, has a page of its own — it is the single thing most likely to go wrong for somebody new, and almost always because nobody explained it.

Nothing on a profile is a review

Reviews are written by members on the forum, in the independent review section for her city, and she cannot edit or remove them. Where a profile has threads they are linked at the foot of it. Where it has none, that is what it says.

Toronto's independent section is the busiest so far. The others are open, and every one of them is waiting on somebody to write the first thing in it.
